Heparon Junior is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for the dietary management of acute and chronic liver failure in infants and children. Heparon Junior is a nutritionally complete powdered product containing cow’s milk protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements with increased levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) and zinc, and a low level of sodium. Suitable as a sole source of nutrition for infants and as a supplementary feed for children.
Indications
For enteral use only. ACBS approved, prescribable on form FP10 (GP10 in Scotland) for the following indications: for the dietary management of infants and young children with acute and chronic liver failure.
Contra-Indications
Contraindicated in Galactosaemia.
Precautions
Must be used under medical supervision. For enteral use only. Suitable as a sole source of nutrition for infants under 1 year of age and as a supplement for children.
Preparation and directions for usage
The quantity of feed and dilution should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only and is dependent on the age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient. Preparation per 100ml ready to feed: Each level scoop provides 4.5g of powder. Every 4 level scoops (18g) of this product requires 90ml (approx. 3 fl. oz.) of water to yield the recommended feed concentration (18% w/v i.e. 18g of product made up to 100ml of water).
