How the product works:
The primary effect of LACTOTUNE™ Vaginal is based on the bioadhesive and pH-adjusting compound polycarbophil.
It has the ability to stick to mucous membranes, which makes it very useful for application in the vaginal tract, resulting in adhesion of the product to the vaginal tract wall for a long period of time.
When introduced to the vaginal tract mucous, the polycarbophil swells by absorbing water, which improves hydration, softness and elasticity of the tissue and forms a hydrated protective layer that inhibits excessive microbes from adhering to the vaginal tract tissue.
Furthermore, the polycarbophil has the ability to lower the pH level in the vaginal tract and retain it within the physiological range (pH 3.5-4.5), thus prompting optimal conditions for the natural vaginal flora to recover from vaginosis or vaginitis and diminishing growth conditions for the causative microbes.
Probiotic Lactobacillus bacteria and prebiotic fibers added to the product assist the activity of the polycarbophil by displacing the causative microbes and by contributing to the recovery of a healthy, balanced vaginal flora with Lactobacillus species in a dominant position.
