Gout is an arthritic condition that is an inflammation of one or more joints in the body caused by a build-up of uric acid. This condition can be chronic, affecting an individual’s quality of life. Uric acid is a normal by-product of purine breakdown in the body, which is usually removed from the blood by the kidneys and excreted with urine. If too much uric acid is produced or not filtered adequately and excreted, then uric acid can build up and form tiny crystals in and around joint tissues. When these crystals are released into joint space it usually causes pain and inflammation in the body.
