Wild rose is probably the most popular flower in the world.
There are over a hundred species of wild rose, all from the northern hemisphere and mostly from temperate regions. Rosa canina, the very first of all the roses, has been repeatedly used as a symbol of life, soul, heart and love.
The word rosa comes from the Greek word rodon, which means red.
According to the myth the rose used to be white until Aphrodite, hurrying to save her dying protégé, Adonis, got hurt from the prickles of a rose and stained with blood its white petals.
Since then, the roses are thought to be Aphrodite’s flowers and they are used to symbolise the regeneration. Wild rose oil, rich in linoleic and linolenic acid, demonstrates significant healing, moisturising and softening properties.
